I started my gunsmithing career in the late eighties as armoror for Brinks Armored Transport in San Bernardino CA, where I became a certified armoror for Glock and Smith & Wesson. We would qualify every month with the San Bernardino County Sherriff’s Department then have “side shoots” for fun. That was the beginning of my love affair with the Remington 870 pump shotgun. I picked one up from the pawn shop and did my “tune-up.” I went up against some high dollar semi-auto’s as well as the “standard issue” police shotguns. I’m proud to say I “smoked’um,” took the side pot money and sold the “Ron’s Tactical” later to become First Shot Results ® (FSR) Tactical Weapons ® to the guy who came in 2nd. I would go buy another 870 from the pawn shop and do it again each month. I put gas in my car that summer and I’ve been building tactical 870’s every since.
I’ve tried all the “hot new trick items,” but the phrase “Keep it Simple” is the foundation on which my shotguns are built. There is a lot of “bling” and “flash” that adds nothing to the reliability. Every item on a “FSR ®” shotgun contributes to the reliability of the weapon. When you are counting on something to save your life, there is no room for “doodads and gimmicks.”
